There is no published UK price for orforglipron (brand name Foundayo) yet, so nobody can say honestly whether it will cost less than weight-loss injections. Any figure you see online today is guesswork. What we can do is explain what's known, what isn't, and what current UK injection and tablet prices actually look like so you can plan realistically.
The honest answer first
Orforglipron received a UK marketing authorisation from the MHRA on 10 August 2026 for weight management and type 2 diabetes. A marketing authorisation means a medicine is permitted to be prescribed in the UK — it is not a price, and it is not the same as any particular pharmacy stocking it.
At The Weight Clinic we do not supply orforglipron yet, and we intend to offer it once we are able to obtain it. Because there is no published UK list price and no confirmed NICE funding decision, we will not estimate a cost — quoting an invented number would be misleading.
Why people expect a pill to be cheaper
The intuition is reasonable. Orforglipron is a small-molecule (non-peptide) GLP-1 tablet, chemically simpler than the peptide medicines used in injections, and simpler molecules can sometimes be manufactured at larger scale. It is also the first GLP-1 designed to be taken at any time of day, with or without food or water — unlike oral semaglutide, which needs an empty-stomach routine.
But manufacturing chemistry is only one input into a UK price. Launch pricing, negotiated discounts, packaging, supply volumes and commercial strategy all matter, and none of those are public for orforglipron in the UK. "Simpler to make" does not automatically translate to "cheaper to buy".
What weight-loss injections cost right now

Price is only half the value question
When comparing cost, it helps to look at what each treatment is expected to deliver, rather than the sticker price alone. Below are the licensed trial figures for the treatments involved. These come from different trials over different durations and are not head-to-head comparisons.
- Mounjaro 15mg: in the SURMOUNT-1 trial, participants lost on average 22.5% of body weight over 72 weeks, alongside lifestyle support. Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this.
- Wegovy injection 7.2mg: in the STEP UP trial, adults lost on average 20.7% of their body weight over 72 weeks, alongside lifestyle support. Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this.
- Wegovy Tablet 25mg: in the OASIS 4 trial, adults on oral semaglutide 25mg lost on average 16.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks, alongside lifestyle support. Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this.
- Orforglipron 36mg: in the Phase 3 ATTAIN-1 trial, participants lost on average 12.4% of their body weight over 72 weeks, alongside lifestyle counselling. Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this.
The point of listing these together is not to rank them — it is to show that "cheaper per month" and "best value for you" are different questions. A registered prescriber weighs likely benefit, side effects and your medical history, not price alone.
Will the NHS fund it?
NHS funding is a separate decision made by NICE, not by the MHRA licence. No date has been confirmed for orforglipron, so any claim about NHS availability or timing would be speculation. When there is verified information, it will come through official NICE and NHS channels.

A note on eligibility and side effects
Weight-loss medicines are generally considered for adults aged 18+ with a BMI of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27–30 with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea. They are not suitable for everyone — including during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain medical histories.
Common side effects across the GLP-1 class include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, decreased appetite and fatigue. Rarer but serious risks include acute pancreatitis and severe allergic reactions. Whether orforglipron will cost less than weight-loss injections in the UK simply cannot be answered yet — there is no published UK price and no confirmed NHS funding decision.
