Why does the price change month to month?
The biggest reason your monthly cost varies is dose titration. Both medicines are started low and increased gradually — typically every few weeks — to reduce side effects like nausea and let your body adjust.
This means your first month or two are usually the cheapest, and your cost rises as you step up. Not everyone needs the maximum dose; many people find their appetite and weight respond well at a middle dose, so they never reach the top price.
A prescriber reviews each step before you move up, so dose changes are a clinical decision, not automatic. If a lower dose is working, there may be no need to increase it.
What about tablets? A lower-cost oral option
If needles are a barrier, the Wegovy Tablet (oral semaglutide) is a once-daily tablet containing the same active medicine as the Wegovy injection. It starts at £115/month, rising to £190/month at the 25mg maintenance dose.
The Wegovy Tablet must be taken first thing on an empty stomach with a small sip of plain water, then you wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other medicines. Taken with food it is far less effective, so the routine matters.
What's actually included in the monthly price?

The most common side effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, decreased appetite and fatigue. Rare but serious effects can include severe allergic reaction, acute pancreatitis and severe hypoglycaemia.
