The Wegovy Tablet (oral semaglutide) starts from £115 per month at The Weight Clinic, with the price rising as you move up through the dose steps. The 9mg strength is one of the titration doses on the way to the 25mg maintenance dose, and your exact monthly cost depends on which dose your prescriber recommends.
Because pricing is tied to dose rather than a single flat fee, this article explains where 9mg fits, what you actually pay across the range, and what is included in that price.
How much does the Wegovy Tablet cost in the UK?
At The Weight Clinic, the Wegovy Tablet is priced from £115 per month for the 1.5mg starter dose, rising to £190 per month for the 25mg maintenance dose. The 9mg strength sits within this range as one of the intermediate titration steps.
Pricing is banded by dose because the amount of active medicine differs at each step. As you titrate upward, your monthly cost typically increases toward the maintenance-dose price.
| Dose | Role | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5mg | Starter dose | From £115 |
| 4mg | Titration step | Between starter and maintenance |
| 9mg | Titration step | Between starter and maintenance |
| 25mg | Maintenance (maximum licensed dose) | Up to £190 |
The 9mg dose is not usually where you begin. Instead, most people start at 1.5mg and step up gradually so the body can adjust, which helps reduce side effects.
Why is the Wegovy Tablet priced by dose?
Prescription weight-loss medicines are generally priced according to the strength dispensed. Higher doses contain more active medicine, so the cost tends to rise as you titrate up toward maintenance.
This is why you'll see a range (£115–£190) rather than one number for the Wegovy Tablet. The 9mg price falls between the starter and maintenance figures, and your free consultation will confirm the dose and cost that apply to you.
What's included in the price?
Your monthly price covers the genuine, MHRA-licensed medicine dispensed by our own GPhC-registered pharmacy, plus tracked delivery and ongoing prescriber support. The online consultation itself is free — you only pay if a treatment is prescribed and you choose to proceed.

What is the Wegovy Tablet?
The Wegovy Tablet is the same active medicine as the Wegovy injection — semaglutide — but taken as a once-daily tablet rather than a weekly injection. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist: it mimics a natural gut hormone that controls appetite, so you feel fuller sooner and for longer, and the stomach empties more slowly.
How the dose is titrated
The Wegovy Tablet follows a step-up schedule to help your body adjust:
- 1.5mg (starter)
- 4mg
- 9mg
- 25mg (maintenance — the maximum licensed dose)
The 9mg step comes after 4mg and before the 25mg maintenance dose. Your prescriber decides how quickly you move between steps based on how you tolerate the medicine.
The critical usage rule
The Wegovy Tablet must be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a small sip of plain water. You then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking other medicines.
This matters because taken with food the tablet is far less effective — the medicine is not absorbed properly. Following this routine consistently is essential to getting the benefit at any dose, including 9mg.
How effective is oral semaglutide?
In the OASIS 4 trial, adults on oral semaglutide 25mg lost on average 16.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks, alongside lifestyle support. Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this.
Note that this figure relates to the 25mg maintenance dose, not the 9mg titration step. The 9mg dose is part of building up to maintenance rather than the target dose itself.
Who is eligible?
The Wegovy Tablet is a prescription-only medicine, available only after a clinical consultation with a GPhC-registered prescriber. You may be eligible if you are:
- Aged 18 or over, and
- Have a BMI of 30 or above, or
- Have a BMI of 27–30 with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea.
It is not suitable if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding; have type 1 diabetes; have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2; have a history of pancreatitis; have severe gastrointestinal disease; have an active eating disorder; have severe liver or kidney impairment; or have a known allergy to the active ingredient.
A treatment is prescribed only if it is clinically appropriate for you — a prescription is never guaranteed.
Side effects to be aware of
The Wegovy Tablet has the same GLP-1 class side-effect profile as other semaglutide products. The most common effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, decreased appetite and fatigue. These are often more noticeable when stepping up a dose and usually ease over time.
Rare but serious effects can include severe allergic reactions and acute pancreatitis. If you experience severe or persistent symptoms, seek medical advice promptly.
You can report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme at https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/.
