How does online prescribing for Mounjaro work?

Online prescribing for Mounjaro works like this: you complete a free online consultation about your health and weight, a GPhC-registered independent prescriber reviews your answers (with a short video call where clinically needed) to check the treatment is safe and appropriate for you, and only if it is suitable is Mounjaro dispensed by a UK pharmacy and sent to you by tracked delivery. Mounjaro is a Prescription-Only Medicine, so it can never be bought off the shelf — a prescriber decision always comes first.

Below is each step in detail, who can be prescribed Mounjaro, how to tell a legitimate service from a grey-market one, and what the treatment costs.

What is the step-by-step process for getting Mounjaro online?

Getting Mounjaro (tirzepatide) online through a regulated UK pharmacy follows four stages, and a prescription is only issued if a prescriber judges it clinically appropriate.

  1. Free online consultation. You answer detailed questions about your weight, height (used to calculate your BMI), medical history, current medicines and any past conditions. The consultation is free and you pay nothing at this stage.
  2. Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered independent prescriber reviews your answers to confirm the treatment is safe and suitable for you, and to rule out reasons it would not be appropriate.
  3. Video consultation where needed. Where a prescriber needs to confirm anything — for example your identity, your weight, or a point in your history — a short video consultation is arranged before any prescription is issued.
  4. Dispensing and delivery. If Mounjaro is prescribed, it is dispensed by the UK pharmacy and sent to you by tracked delivery, with ongoing prescriber support for your titration and any side effects.

You can begin the first step with a free online consultation, and treatment is never guaranteed — it is prescribed only when it is clinically right for you.

Who reviews my answers, and is a real prescriber involved?

Every Mounjaro request is reviewed by a GPhC-registered independent prescriber on the clinical team — not an automated system or a sales agent. At The Weight Clinic the Superintendent Pharmacist is Andrew Lane (GPhC 2027876), and medicines are dispensed by our own pharmacy, North Harrow Pharmacy (GPhC registration 1034996), which you can verify on the General Pharmaceutical Council register at pharmacyregulation.org.

The online questionnaire gathers the information, but a human prescriber makes the decision. This is what separates lawful online prescribing from simply ordering a product: the clinician is accountable for judging that the medicine is appropriate and safe for you specifically.

Who can be prescribed Mounjaro online?

Mounjaro may be prescribed for adults aged 18 or over who meet the eligibility criteria below, provided a prescriber confirms it is clinically appropriate after reviewing your full history.

  • Aged 18 or over.
  • A BMI of 30 or more (obesity), or a BMI of 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea.

Mounjaro is not suitable if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding; have type 1 diabetes; have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2; have a history of pancreatitis; have severe gastrointestinal disease; have an active eating disorder; have severe liver or kidney impairment; or are allergic to the active ingredient. The online consultation is designed to pick up these factors, which is why complete and honest answers matter.

How do I know an online Mounjaro service is legitimate?

A legitimate UK online prescriber dispenses only genuine, MHRA-licensed Mounjaro through a GPhC-registered pharmacy, after a prescriber reviews your consultation — and lets you verify every claim. Use this checklist before you share any personal or payment details.

  • GPhC registration you can check. The pharmacy should name its GPhC registration number so you can confirm it on the GPhC register at pharmacyregulation.org.
  • A named Superintendent Pharmacist and independent prescribers responsible for clinical decisions.
  • A genuine clinical consultation — if a site sells you Mounjaro with no health questions and no prescriber review, that is a serious red flag.
  • MHRA-licensed medicine only, dispensed by the pharmacy itself rather than an anonymous overseas warehouse.
  • ICO registration and data protection for your personal and medical data.

You can read more about our regulated process on our about page, or compare the available options on our treatments overview.

What does Mounjaro cost, and when do I pay?

The online consultation is free, and you only pay if Mounjaro is prescribed and you choose to proceed. The price depends on your dose, because Mounjaro is titrated upwards over time from a 2.5mg starter dose to a maximum of 15mg. The monthly prices are a plain factual list:

DosePrice per month
2.5mg (starter)£160
5mg£185
7.5mg£240
10mg£260
12.5mg£275
15mg£295

The figure covers the medicine, dispensing and tracked delivery, with prescriber support throughout. You can see current prices on the Mounjaro page, or explore alternatives such as the Wegovy injection, the Wegovy Tablet and Foundayo if a tablet or a different medicine suits you better — your prescriber will help you decide.

How does Mounjaro work, and how effective is it?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates two gut-hormone receptors — GLP-1 and GIP — at the same time, which reduces appetite and helps you feel fuller. It is a once-weekly self-injection, and your prescriber reviews each step up in dose.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, participants on the 15mg dose lost on average 22.5% of body weight over 72 weeks, alongside lifestyle support. Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this.

What side effects should I expect, and how are they managed online?

The most common Mounjaro side effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, decreased appetite and fatigue — which is one reason the dose is increased gradually, starting at 2.5mg. These effects are often worst early and tend to settle as your body adjusts.

Rare but serious effects include severe allergic reaction, acute pancreatitis, severe hypoglycaemia, severe gastrointestinal disease and worsening diabetic retinopathy; seek medical help if you experience severe or persistent symptoms. Ongoing prescriber support means you can raise any problem before your next dose step. You can report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme at https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/.
