Yes — The Weight Clinic is a legitimate, fully regulated UK online weight-loss service. Medicines are dispensed by our own General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)-registered pharmacy, and every treatment is prescribed by a GPhC-registered independent prescriber after a clinical consultation.

If you are researching an online clinic before you trust it with your health and money, that caution is sensible. This guide explains exactly what makes The Weight Clinic legitimate, how you can verify it yourself in a couple of minutes, and how a regulated UK service differs from the unregulated "grey-market" sellers you may have seen online.

How to verify The Weight Clinic yourself

You should never take a clinic's word for its own legitimacy — including ours. The reassuring thing about a properly regulated pharmacy is that you can check the facts independently on official regulators' websites.

1. Check the GPhC register

Our dispensing pharmacy is North Harrow Pharmacy, with GPhC registration number 1034996. You can confirm this on the General Pharmaceutical Council's public online register at pharmacyregulation.org. The GPhC is the statutory regulator for pharmacies in Great Britain, so a genuine registration is a strong sign a service is legitimate.

2. Check the Superintendent Pharmacist

Every registered pharmacy must have a named Superintendent Pharmacist responsible for its clinical governance. Ours is Andrew Lane (GPhC 2027876). Named, registered professionals who can be looked up individually are another hallmark of a legitimate service.

3. Check data protection registration

The Weight Clinic is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and is compliant with the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT). This governs how your medical and personal data is handled.

What makes a weight-loss service legitimate vs grey-market

Weight-loss medicines like Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide) are Prescription-Only Medicines. That means, in the UK, they should only ever be supplied after a prescriber has assessed that treatment is clinically appropriate and safe for you.

Unregulated or overseas "grey-market" sellers often bypass this. The differences matter for your safety:

Legitimate UK service (like The Weight Clinic)Grey-market / unregulated seller
GPhC-registered pharmacy you can verifyNo verifiable UK registration
Prescribed by a GPhC-registered independent prescriberSold with no proper clinical assessment
Only genuine, MHRA-licensed medicinesUnlicensed or counterfeit products
Named, accountable pharmacist and prescribersAnonymous seller, no accountability
ICO-registered, DSPT-compliant data handlingUnknown handling of your data
Ongoing prescriber supportNo follow-up or safety monitoring

We supply only genuine, MHRA-licensed medicines, dispensed by our own UK pharmacy — never from a third-party warehouse, and never unlicensed products.

How the prescriber-led process works

Legitimacy is not only about paperwork — it is about how you are actually cared for. A regulated service puts a clinician between you and the medicine, rather than simply taking payment and shipping a box.

  1. Free online consultation. You answer questions about your health, medical history and weight. The consultation is free, and you only pay if a treatment is prescribed and you choose to go ahead.
  2. Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered independent prescriber reviews your answers to check that treatment is clinically appropriate and safe for you.
  3. Video consultation where needed. A short video consultation is carried out where it is clinically appropriate.
  4. Dispensing and delivery. If suitable, the medicine is dispensed by our UK pharmacy and sent by tracked delivery, with ongoing prescriber support.

Crucially, a prescription is only issued if it is clinically appropriate. Treatment is never guaranteed — and any service that promises you a prescription before assessing you should be treated with caution.

Who treatment is and isn't suitable for

A legitimate clinic will always screen for suitability. Weight-loss medicines are generally considered for adults aged 18+ with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27–30 alongside a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea.

They are not suitable if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding, have type 1 diabetes, a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2, a history of pancreatitis, severe gastrointestinal disease, an active eating disorder, severe liver or kidney impairment, or a known allergy to the active ingredient. A prescriber checks all of this before prescribing.

A note on "reviews" and ratings

When searching "is The Weight Clinic legit", you may look for star ratings or review counts. We will not quote a score or invent testimonials here. Instead, the most reliable checks are the verifiable ones above: the GPhC register entry, the named pharmacist and prescribers, and ICO registration.

When assessing any online clinic, look for: a genuine, checkable GPhC pharmacy registration number; a named Superintendent Pharmacist; use of only MHRA-licensed medicines; a real clinical consultation rather than a checkout-only "buy now" flow; and clear UK contact details. What treatments we offer

Our regulated service can, where clinically appropriate, prescribe licensed weight-management medicines including Mounjaro, the Wegovy injection and the Wegovy Tablet. You can see the full range on our treatments overview or the weight-loss injections page.

Side effects and reporting

GLP-1-based medicines share a common side-effect profile. The most common effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) include nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, decreased appetite and fatigue. Rare but serious effects can include severe allergic reactions and acute pancreatitis, which is one more reason clinician oversight matters.

If you experience a side effect from any medicine, you can report it to the UK medicines regulator via the Yellow Card scheme at https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/.

The bottom line

The Weight Clinic is a genuine, GPhC-registered UK pharmacy service — not an unregulated overseas seller. You can verify our pharmacy (registration 1034996) on the GPhC register, our named Superintendent Pharmacist, and our ICO registration, all independently. When you are ready, you can begin with a free, no-obligation eligibility check, or read more on our blog.

Weight-loss medicines are prescription-only, are not suitable for everyone, and are prescribed only after a clinical consultation with a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary. Always speak to a UK-registered pharmacist or doctor before starting or changing any prescription medication.
