Is it safe to buy Mounjaro online in the UK?

Yes — it is safe to buy Mounjaro online in the UK, but only from a pharmacy registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) that prescribes it after a clinical consultation. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, so any site that sells it without checking your health first, or without a prescriber, is operating unlawfully and should be avoided.

Below is how to tell a legitimate UK service from an unsafe one, what a safe process looks like, and how to verify a pharmacy in a couple of minutes.

Is it legal to buy Mounjaro online in the UK?

It is legal to buy Mounjaro online in the UK only through a GPhC-registered pharmacy where a registered prescriber has assessed you and decided the medicine is clinically appropriate. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a Prescription-Only Medicine, which means it cannot lawfully be sold without a valid prescription issued for you as an individual.

Buying from a site that ships Mounjaro with no consultation, no prescriber, or from overseas without UK regulation is unsafe and often illegal. The medicine may be unlicensed, counterfeit, incorrectly stored, or the wrong strength — and you lose the clinical safety net that catches reasons the medicine may not suit you.

How do I check if a Mounjaro website is a real UK pharmacy?

You can verify any UK online pharmacy yourself in a few minutes using public regulators. A legitimate service will publish the details below and welcome you checking them.

  1. Find the GPhC registration number and confirm the pharmacy on the General Pharmaceutical Council register at pharmacyregulation.org. For example, The Weight Clinic dispenses through North Harrow Pharmacy, GPhC registration number 1034996.
  2. Check there is a named Superintendent Pharmacist responsible for clinical governance. At The Weight Clinic this is Andrew Lane (GPhC 2027876).
  3. Confirm a consultation is required. A real pharmacy will not let you add Mounjaro to a basket and check out without a health assessment.
  4. Look for ICO registration for data protection and compliance with the NHS Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
  5. Check the medicine is MHRA-licensed — genuine, UK-licensed tirzepatide, not an "unbranded" or "grey-market" alternative.

You can read how our own service is set up on our about page, and start a free check on our consultation page.

What are the warning signs of an unsafe Mounjaro seller?

Unsafe sellers share a recognisable pattern: they remove the clinical checks that make a prescription medicine safe. Treat any of the following as a reason to walk away.

  • No consultation or health questions before purchase.
  • No GPhC registration number, or a number that does not match on the GPhC register.
  • No named prescriber or Superintendent Pharmacist.
  • Prices that look too good to be true, or pressure to "buy today".
  • Shipping from overseas, or selling vials/"research" tirzepatide rather than the licensed pen.
  • Sales through social media, messaging apps or marketplaces.

What does a safe process to buy Mounjaro online look like?

A safe online process always places a registered prescriber between you and the medicine, and dispenses from a regulated UK pharmacy. At The Weight Clinic the steps are:

  1. A free online consultation about your health, weight and medical history.
  2. A GPhC-registered independent prescriber reviews your answers to check Mounjaro is clinically appropriate and safe for you.
  3. A short video consultation where clinically needed.
  4. If suitable, the medicine is dispensed by our own UK pharmacy and sent by tracked delivery, with ongoing prescriber support.

A prescription is only issued if it is clinically appropriate — treatment is never guaranteed. You can see the full range on our treatments page and our weight-loss injections page.

Who is eligible to be prescribed Mounjaro in the UK?

Mounjaro may be prescribed to adults aged 18 or over with a BMI of 30 or more, or a BMI of 27 or more alongside a weight-related condition such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or sleep apnoea.

It is not suitable if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding; have type 1 diabetes; have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2; have a history of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disease; have an active eating disorder; have severe liver or kidney impairment; or are allergic to the active ingredient. A prescriber confirms your eligibility during the consultation.

How does Mounjaro work, and how effective is it?

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates two gut-hormone receptors — GLP-1 and GIP — at the same time, which reduces appetite and helps you feel fuller for longer. It is a once-weekly self-injection, started at 2.5mg and titrated upwards (5, 7.5, 10, 12.5mg) to a maximum licensed dose of 15mg.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, participants on the 15mg dose lost on average 22.5% of body weight over 72 weeks, alongside lifestyle support (Jastreboff AM, et al. N Engl J Med. 2022;387(3):205–216). Individual results vary; not everyone reaches this. You can read more on our Mounjaro page.

What side effects should I know about?

The most common Mounjaro side effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) are nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, vomiting, decreased appetite and fatigue. These are often mildest at the lowest doses and when you eat smaller, slower meals.

Rare but serious effects include severe allergic reaction, acute pancreatitis, severe hypoglycaemia, severe gastrointestinal disease and worsening diabetic retinopathy. If you experience side effects, you can report them through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme at https://yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/.

How much does Mounjaro cost from a UK online pharmacy?

The online consultation is free; you only pay if Mounjaro is prescribed and you choose to proceed. The monthly cost depends on your dose. For reference, the current per-month figures are set out below — this is factual information, not a recommendation to choose on price.
